U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) issued a statement following the Senate Armed Services Committee's (SASC) reporting of the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). During the committee’s markup process, Sen. Tuberville emphasized his commitment to Alabama’s defense priorities and secured amendments aimed at benefiting Alabama’s installations, promoting conservative values, and enhancing the United States military's capabilities.
"Alabama will always be my first priority. I am proud of the funding we were able to secure for our state in this year’s NDAA," said Senator Tuberville. "As Alabama’s voice on the Senate Armed Services committee, I’m proud that the NDAA makes significant investments in Alabama’s defense industry, including a 4.5% pay raise for our troops and advocating for additional MH-139 aircraft for Alabama’s military bases."
Senator Tuberville also criticized what he described as "woke politics" infiltrating the military under President Joe Biden's administration. He highlighted provisions he secured in this year's NDAA that prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding gender transition surgeries, reduce funding for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs at the Department of Defense, and increase funding to secure the border and combat fentanyl trafficking.
"As Joe Biden has us on the brink of multiple wars, it is more critical than ever that we make key investments in our military," Tuberville stated. "We may have different priorities, but we should all agree that the United States military should be the most lethal fighting force in the world. My top priorities this year were lethality, deterrence, and readiness—and I am proud to say we achieved that."
The Senate FY2025 NDAA includes several measures aimed at bolstering national security and supporting service members.
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and Health Education Labor & Pensions (HELP).
