U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) will join a bipartisan Senate delegation traveling to Normandy, France, to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion by Allied forces during World War II. Senator Tuberville’s father, Charles Tuberville, was among the soldiers who landed and fought on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944.

Yesterday, Senator Tuberville delivered a floor speech commemorating the heroes who fought in the invasion and emphasizing the importance of educating younger generations about those who sacrificed for freedom. “I am honored to join my colleagues in honoring the brave soldiers who lost their lives on the beaches of Normandy 80 years ago,” said Senator Tuberville. “It has always been a bucket list item for me to see the beaches where young adults, like my father, heroically fought for our freedom. May we never forget their sacrifices and honor them by making sure our children know the truth about the freedoms that make America so great.”

The delegation will arrive in Normandy on Thursday, June 6, and join American and French leaders and veterans at a ceremony at the American Cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer. They will meet with World War II veterans and pay respects at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. Later that day, members of the delegation will join heads of state representing Allied partners at an international ceremony at Omaha Beach in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.

While in France, the delegation will also meet with American diplomatic and military leadership stationed in Europe.

In addition to Senator Tuberville, Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), John Boozman (R-AR), Katie Britt (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Joe Manchin (I-WV), Patty Murray (D-WA), Gary Peters (D-MI), Jack Reed (D-RI), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) will be joining the trip.

Senator Tuberville cosponsored a resolution commemorating D-Day and expressing gratitude to U.S. Armed Forces members and Allied troops responsible for this decisive maneuver that secured victory in Europe.

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
