Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville delivered a speech on the Senate floor to honor Veterans Day and recognize veterans for their service and sacrifice. In his remarks, he paid tribute to three Alabama veterans: Sergeant Ricardo Jaramillo from Harvest, Senior Chief Petty Officer Wayne Weeks from Geneva, and Petty Officer Second Class Alex Vogt from Hoover.
“Because of their service and sacrifice, America remains a great beacon of freedom for generations to come,” Tuberville stated during his address. He highlighted the freedom Americans enjoy due to the sacrifices made by servicemen and women.
Tuberville acknowledged the enduring contributions of these veterans beyond their military service. He emphasized that they continue to inspire others in their communities. “I recognized three Alabama veterans who honorably served in our nation’s military... They continue to uplift and inspire others around them, including myself.”
The senator also recounted historical moments related to Veterans Day, noting that it began as Armistice Day 105 years ago after World War I. He credited Raymond Weeks of Birmingham for expanding it into National Veterans Day.
Reflecting on his personal connection, Tuberville mentioned his father, Charles Tuberville III, a World War II veteran who fought on Utah Beach during D-Day. “My dad remains an inspiration for me today,” he said.
Senator Tuberville serves Alabama in the U.S. Senate and is a member of several committees, including Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs.
