U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Tommy Tuberville, and Bill Hagerty have raised concerns with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland regarding the Department of Justice's handling of noncitizens registering to vote in federal elections. They have criticized the DOJ for not taking action against these instances and failing to respond to a previous inquiry sent on July 12, 2024.

The Senators stated, "We are deeply concerned by reports of non-citizens registering to vote and voting in federal elections." They emphasized the importance of maintaining trust in election integrity as the presidential election approaches.

The group of lawmakers has requested detailed information from the DOJ about cases involving noncitizen voter registration and voting since January 20, 2021. They seek data on charges under specific U.S.C. sections and details on how allegations are investigated by the DOJ. The deadline for a response is set for October 16, 2024.

Joining Senators Britt, Tuberville, and Hagerty are several other senators including Marsha Blackburn, Roger Marshall, Thom Tillis, Rick Scott, James Lankford, Jim Risch, Ron Johnson, Kevin Cramer, Mike Crapo, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Josh Hawley, Steve Daines, Cynthia Lummis, Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, John Thune, Shelley Moore Capito, Ted Cruz among others. A number of Representatives also signed the letter expressing similar concerns.

Senator Britt has been active in promoting election integrity since assuming office. She introduced the Citizen Ballot Protection Act aimed at allowing states to require proof of citizenship for mail-in voter registration applications.

Senator Tommy Tuberville serves Alabama in the Senate and is involved with several committees including Armed Services and Agriculture.
