Senator Tuberville (R-AL) joined his Republican colleagues in introducing a resolution recognizing May 12–18, 2024 as National Police Week. He also paid tribute to the 222 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year, including three from Alabama: Huntsville Police Officer Garrett Crumby, Montgomery Police Officer Carlos Taylor, and Alabama Port Authority police officer Kimberly Sickafoose. The recent tragic loss of 21-year-old Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerymius Young in April 2024 was also acknowledged.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Senator Tuberville will host a National Police Week roundtable with several members of Alabama law enforcement and former officials from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
“America’s brave men and women in blue wake up every day prepared to sacrifice their own safety in service to fellow Americans they may not even know,” said Senator Tuberville. “Police officers are the first line of defense for Alabamians and families across the country. Yet today, Democrats have turned our police into national punching bags. Democrats’ attacks on our police are absolutely repugnant and must be condemned by every American, especially those in public office. Police are some of the best people in this country. Now, more than ever, they deserve our gratitude and support.”
The full resolution can be read here.
In addition to recognizing National Police Week last year by introducing the Back the Blue Act — legislation that would increase penalties for criminals who target law enforcement officers and provide new tools for officers to protect themselves — Senator Tuberville continues his work to protect, defend, and support law enforcement.
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
