U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Jim Risch have jointly issued a letter urging governors to comply with former President Trump's Executive Order, which seeks to exclude men from participating in women's sports. "State-level action is vital to ensure America’s female athletes receive the same assurance of fairness nationwide," the senators stated. The letter calls for prompt action from states to align with the Executive Order, emphasizing fairness, safety, and the integrity of women’s sports.

The issue has drawn attention, especially after more than 900 women reportedly lost medals during President Biden’s administration due to men competing in women's sports. According to a recent New York Times poll, 79% of respondents, including 67% of Democrats, expressed opposition to men participating in women’s sports. These statistics underscore the importance of the issue among voters during the 2024 Presidential Election.

In February, former President Trump signed the Executive Order banning men from women's sports, continuing to advocate for its necessity. However, the flexibility of Executive Orders has led Senator Tuberville to propose the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, intended to permanently enshrine the order. The bill was not advanced due to opposition from 45 Democratic senators.

Senator Tuberville has also championed legislation to ban men from competing in U.S. Olympic women's sports in light of policies by organizations like USA Boxing. Representing Alabama, Tuberville is committed to ensuring fairness and safety for female athletes, stating a continued dedication to safeguarding women's rights in sports competitions.
