WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and veteran sports broadcaster Sage Steele highlighted the importance of protecting female athletes in a recent op-ed on Fox News. The piece focused on the impact of Title IX and the need to preserve women's sports by keeping men out.

Senator Tuberville and Steele emphasized the significance of Title IX, with Tuberville stating, "Fifty-two years ago, Congress passed Title IX, a law ensuring equal access for men and women to the lessons, life skills, and opportunities that come from sports." He further added, "We have both seen the positive effects of Title IX firsthand."

Reflecting on their experiences, Tuberville shared a personal anecdote from coaching junior girls’ basketball, where he witnessed the immediate difference Title IX made in women’s athletics. He noted the success of the young women who went on to earn college scholarships and become leaders in their communities.

Steele, on the other hand, discussed her involvement in the growth of women's sports at ESPN, attributing the flourishing of sports like women’s collegiate basketball, gymnastics, softball, swimming, and golf to Title IX.

The op-ed also criticized the recent actions of Democrats in blocking an amendment introduced by Senator Tuberville to protect female athletes, stating, "One thing is clear: we need Congress to take action."

Stressing the bipartisan nature of the issue, Steele remarked, "This isn’t a Democrat or Republican problem – it’s an American one." Both Tuberville and Steele advocated for the 'Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act' to preserve the intent of Title IX and ensure the future of women's sports.

In conclusion, the collaborative effort between Senator Tuberville and Sage Steele underscores the ongoing debate surrounding women’s sports and the need for legislative action to safeguard the integrity of female athletics.
