Congratulations to Detective Deon Thornton for being named MCDA's Officer of the Month for July!

Congratulations to Detective Deon Thornton for being named MCDA's Officer of the Month for July! Det. Thornton has been in law enforcement for 13 years and currently works for TEAM SHERIFF.

"As far back as I can remember I wanted to be a state trooper, it was only in my later years of life that I decided to close a construction company I owned and become a police officer. I made the decision in my late 30s to apply and was finally able to get in Mobile Police Departments Academy class at the age of 40 years old.

When I decided to become a police officer it was to help citizens with who have been wronged criminally, so I would say the best thing about being in law enforcement is helping people regardless of their situation.

The best pieces of advice I can give to someone who is considering entering a law enforcement career:  learn how to control your emotions when dealing with individuals whether they are the victim or the suspect, give respect to everyone who deserves it, do not rush your career, the more you learn on the streets the more it will help you if/when you become an investigator and above all leave work at work.

I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, boating, hanging out on the beach and vacations."

Thank you so much for serving and protecting our community!
