U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) in a statement criticizing Senate Democrats for advocating the Right to Contraception Act, which they argue misleads the public on contraception accessibility and threatens religious freedoms and parental rights. The bill was initially passed by Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) Democrat-controlled House in 2022.

Yesterday, Democrats reintroduced the bill during an election year, aiming to spark a national conversation about what Republicans describe as a non-existent issue. The Republican senators successfully blocked the bill.

“There is no threat to access to contraception, which is legal in every state and required by law to be offered at no cost by health insurers, and it’s disgusting that Democrats are fearmongering on this important issue to score cheap political points. This bill infringes on the parental rights and religious liberties of some Americans and lets the federal government force religious institutions and schools, even public elementary schools, to offer contraception like condoms to little kids. It’s just another way for Democrats to use activist attorneys and our courts to advance their radical agenda and that is why we oppose this bill,” said the Senators.

Senators Tuberville and Scott were joined by Senators Katie Britt (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Steve Daines (R-MT), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Ron Johnson (R-WI), James Lankford (R-OK), Mike Lee (R-UT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Rand Paul (R-KY), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), John Thune(R-SD) ,and Thom Tillis(R-NC).

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
