U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Senator Rick Scott of Florida, along with several congressional colleagues, have sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. The group is urging them to oppose any Democratic demands that could undermine President Trump's efforts, through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to reduce federal spending.

The senators emphasized their commitment to keeping the government open while supporting President Trump’s initiatives to eliminate wasteful spending. They stated, “We stand ready to work with you to ensure that the government remains open in a way that preserves President Trump’s options to root out wasteful government spending and fully continues DOGE’s important work."

Senators Marsha Blackburn, Ted Budd, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, Cynthia Lummis, Bernie Moreno, and Eric Schmitt joined Tuberville and Scott in this effort. Congressman Andy Harris led the initiative in the House.

The letter highlighted concerns about reports suggesting Democrats are demanding provisions in a government funding agreement that could hinder DOGE's efforts. It mentioned an approaching deadline for government funding on March 14th and expressed worry over potential policy provisions that may limit presidential authority on fiscal matters.

The communication underscored issues related to federal bureaucracy and spending accountability amid a national debt crisis totaling $36 trillion. "Our country cannot afford to allow Democrats to frustrate President Trump’s work," stated the letter.

Senator Tuberville represents Alabama in the U.S. Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs.
