U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama recently appeared on Fox's "America Reports" to discuss the upcoming Senate vote on his proposed legislation, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This bill aims to solidify Title IX protections and prevent transgender athletes from participating in women's sports. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill with a 218-206 bipartisan vote.

During the interview, Senator Tuberville expressed hope for bipartisan support but acknowledged challenges: “Well John, I would hope so, but it’s a heavy lift. This is the third time—third time I’ve had it on the floor.”

A recent New York Times/Ipsos poll indicates that a significant majority of Americans support excluding transgender athletes from women's sports. According to John Roberts, “Seventy-nine percent of all Americans believe that transgender athletes should not be allowed in women’s sports.”

Senator Tuberville emphasized the need for fairness in sports: “And I talk to Democrats, John, and I say, ‘What do you not understand here?’ and they say, ‘Well, it’s gotta be fair.’ Wait a minute—fair? You’re gonna do away with women’s sports is what you’re going to do.”

The senator also commented on Maine Governor Janet Mills' stance against President Trump's executive order related to this issue: “Well, first of all, this is not a Democrat or Republic issue. This is an American and equal rights issue."

The outcome of the Senate vote remains uncertain as supporters watch closely to see if enough Democrats will join Republicans in breaking any potential filibuster.

Senator Tommy Tuberville serves Alabama in the United States Senate and participates in several committees including Armed Services and Agriculture.
