U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has reintroduced the Ensuring Continuity in Veterans Health Act, aiming to amend Title 38 of the United States Code. The proposed legislation would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to consider continuity of healthcare when determining if a community provider is in a veteran's best medical interest.
The Washington Examiner initially reported on this legislative effort by Senator Tuberville. "Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, and deserve access to quick and quality care," stated Senator Tuberville. He criticized the current administration, saying, "Under the Biden-Harris VA, we witnessed an exasperation of bureaucratic red tape, which has put our veterans’ health at risk."
The companion bill was reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by U.S. Representative Scott Franklin from Florida's 15th district. Congressman Franklin remarked, "Those who bravely served our nation deserve a healthcare system that provides timely access to quality care." He emphasized empowering veterans with choices regarding their healthcare options and mentioned that his bill builds upon President Trump's MISSION Act.
Senator Tuberville represents over 400,000 veterans from Alabama on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee. He has been actively working to streamline community care processes for veterans and recently helped introduce another piece of legislation aimed at increasing access through VA providers in communities.
Last year, he joined Senator Jerry Moran in urging former VA Secretary McDonough to reassess actions that reduced referrals to community care under the Biden-Harris administration.
Senator Tuberville serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP (Health, Education, Labor & Pensions), and Aging Committees.
