Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville from Alabama wrote an op-ed in OutKick urging the Senate to pass legislation that would make former President Trump's Executive Order on women's sports permanent. Tuberville introduced two bills aimed at preserving Title IX protections for female athletes: the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act and the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act.

Tuberville attended the signing of the Executive Order at the White House, where Trump acknowledged his efforts to support women's sports both in Congress and during his coaching career. Tuberville emphasized that "Congress needs to act on this to make sure the next Democrat administration can’t take the same steps to destroy Title IX that the Biden administration took."

In his op-ed, Tuberville stated, “Nov. 5, 2024, is the day the American people sent shockwaves to the swamp in D.C. when they overwhelmingly reelected Donald J. Trump as President of the United States.” He criticized what he described as attempts by Democrats under Biden's administration to allow transgender men to participate in women’s sports.

The senator argued that young women have been forced into unfair competition with men and shared locker rooms with them due to these policies. He noted that "under Joe Biden, 900 women’s medals went to men," which he deemed unacceptable.

Tuberville recounted his early experiences with Title IX during his first coaching job in women's basketball, highlighting its positive impact on female athletic participation.

He expressed gratitude for Trump's leadership after signing an Executive Order protecting women's sports for four years but warned about its potential reversal by future administrations. His bill aims to ensure schools do not receive federal funding if they permit boys to compete in women's sports while defining gender strictly as male or female for these purposes.

The proposed legislation has already passed through the House with bipartisan support. Tuberville mentioned receiving assurances from Leader John Thune about bringing it up for a Senate vote soon.
