U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville has expressed strong support for Linda McMahon, President Trump's nominee for Secretary of Education, in an op-ed published in Newsweek. Tuberville highlighted McMahon's commitment to school choice and her intention to reduce bureaucratic obstacles at the Department of Education.
Tuberville stated, "Under her leadership, we will see education run by the states and localities, not by bureaucrats in D.C." He emphasized that McMahon plans to implement policies promoting school choice, enhance technical colleges, and foster workforce development. These are issues he discussed with her during a meeting last month.
Drawing from his experience as a coach and educator, Tuberville stressed the importance of education in securing the nation's future. He remarked on the failure of the current education system to adequately prepare young people for successful careers or good-paying jobs. According to him, "Education is the key to unlocking opportunity," a sentiment echoed by many Founding Fathers like Thomas Jefferson.
Tuberville criticized the Department of Education for functioning as what he described as a "woke indoctrination machine" rather than an effective educational institution. He believes McMahon is well-positioned to address these challenges due to her extensive background in education governance and advocacy.
McMahon's experience includes serving on the Connecticut School Board and being a board member at Sacred Heart University for two decades. Tuberville noted that she is prepared to challenge existing norms within the department.
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP.
