U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) penned an op-ed in The Daily Caller following the Senate Armed Services Committee's passage of this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). In the piece, Sen. Tuberville criticizes the Biden administration’s influence on military policies, asserting that it has left the nation in "one of the most vulnerable positions it has been in since the Cold War."
Sen. Tuberville explains how the Senate NDAA aims to redirect focus by cutting funding for social programs he deems unnecessary, thereby allowing the U.S. military to concentrate on its primary mission.
“For decades, support for the U.S. military was one of the few topics that brought Republicans and Democrats together," Tuberville writes. He recalls how historically bipartisan efforts led to drafting bills like the NDAA, which authorized military funding and set policy priorities for the Department of Defense (DOD).
"Unfortunately, that is no longer the case," he continues. "Under President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, our military has been infiltrated by woke politics that have become a massive distraction from their mission." According to Tuberville, this shift has negatively impacted military readiness and lethality.
"Biden has weaponized the DOD to serve as a tool for his radical political agenda," Tuberville claims. He criticizes mandates such as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training and taxpayer-funded elective abortions and gender transition surgeries for servicemembers. Additionally, he mentions over 8,000 troops being dismissed for refusing COVID-19 vaccinations.
Tuberville also condemns Biden's foreign policy decisions, particularly highlighting what he describes as a premature withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in American casualties and emboldened adversaries.
"Since then, his foreign policy of appeasement has led to wars all over the world," Tuberville states. He argues that these actions have endangered global trade and put U.S. troops at risk while leaving national borders vulnerable.
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
