U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) demanded a full and fair impeachment trial for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, accusing him of intentionally failing to secure the border. In a floor speech, Sen. Tuberville called on his colleagues to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable, questioning his performance and commitment to protecting the country.
"The House managers have officially delivered the letters of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas to the Senate. Now is the time for every Senator to go on the record. Do you think Mayorkas has done a good job at the border? Has Mayorkas fulfilled the oath he swore before this body [to] protect and defend our country against all threats, foreign and domestic? Is our border secure? The answer is simple. Mayorkas has intentionally failed to do his job," Sen. Tuberville stated.
Expressing concern over the border crisis and the impact of illegal immigration, Sen. Tuberville criticized the Biden administration's handling of the situation. He highlighted the risks posed by allowing illegal immigrants, including criminals, drug traffickers, and terrorists, to enter the United States unchecked.
"Our border is the least secure it has ever been. In fact, it’s almost nonexistent. Our border patrol agents are so overwhelmed and receive such little support from the Biden administration to enforce our laws, that they have been forced to release millions of illegal immigrants into the United States," Sen. Tuberville emphasized.
Sen. Tuberville also pointed out the dangers of fentanyl entering the country and the lack of border security measures in place to prevent such illicit substances from flowing into communities. He criticized Secretary Mayorkas for prioritizing other international engagements over securing U.S. borders and protecting American citizens.
"It’s embarrassing. In February, he traveled to Austria to speak with Chinese officials about counter-narcotic efforts. Did he discuss with them the flood of Chinese illegal immigrants coming to the U.S. through the southwest border?" Sen. Tuberville questioned.
Concluding his speech, Sen. Tuberville urged his Democratic colleagues to consider the impact of illegal immigration on national security and the safety of American citizens. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability regarding Secretary Mayorkas' actions and pledged to vote to hold him accountable.
"I will be voting to hold Mayorkas accountable. Americans deserve to know the truth about how Secretary Mayorkas has intentionally failed to secure the border," Sen. Tuberville asserted.
In his role as a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees, Sen. Tuberville continues to advocate for stronger border security measures and greater accountability within the Department of Homeland Security.
