Washington – Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) raised concerns about border security during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing. Tuberville specifically focused on the northern border, inquiring about potential terrorist threats crossing into the country.
During the hearing, Senator Tuberville asked General Gregory M. Guillot, USAF, Commander of the United States Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, about the measures in place to secure the northern border. General Guillot responded by highlighting the importance of monitoring the northern border for potential threats and emphasized the cooperation between agencies to maintain situational awareness.
Tuberville further inquired about the level of cooperation in securing the northern border, to which General Guillot affirmed, stating, "absolutely getting cooperation and keeping a strong sense of situational awareness on the activities of the northern border."
Acknowledging the critical role of the military in protecting American citizens and the country, Senator Tuberville expressed his support for increased funding for defense operations. Tuberville remarked on the recent allocation of $60 billion to Ukraine and suggested that similar investments should be directed towards bolstering the capabilities of NORTHCOM and SOUTHCOM.
