South Alabama owns a 15-6 all-time lead over Texas State in a series that dates back to 2014. The Bobcats took two of three games from the Jaguars last season in San Marcos in a non-conference series after taking the first two games of the series. USA's last series win came in 2019 with two wins at Stanky Field. The Jags are 8-4 all-time at Texas State, and 15-6 all-time against the Bobcats under head coach Mark Calvi.

SIMINGTON IN NATIONAL, SBC RANKINGS

Right fielder Miles Simington ranks 13th nationally in hits per game (1.68), which leads the Sun Belt Conference. Simington ranks second in the SBC in hits (62), third in RBIs (42), fifth in total bases (93), seventh in OPS (1.055), tied for seventh in on-base percentage (.459) and ninth in slugging percentage (.596).

HIT STREAKS, ON-BASE STREAKS

Will Turner carries a team-best 26-game on-base streak into the weekend. Diego Altamirano enters the series opener with a 24-game on-base streak, and Erick Orbeta has reached safely in 22 consecutive games. Miles Simington enters Friday's series opener with a team-best nine-game hit streak. Simington has recorded multiple hits in five straight games, and has tallied multiple hits in seven game during his current nine-game hit streak.

TISSUE AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS

Third baseman Cameron Tissue ranks third nationally in sacrifice bunts per game (0.35), which leads the Sun Belt Conference, and fourth in sacrifice bunts (11), which ranks second in the league. Pat Murphy (1992) owns the single-season record at USA for sacrifice bunts with 18.

STOKES CLIMBING CAREER GAMES PLAYED RECORD LIST

First baseman Hunter Stokes ranks fifth in career games played (219) at South Alabama, and needs to appear in 15 games to pass Brett Parker (233) for the most games played in program history.

BOZ IN SBC RANKINGS

Right-hander Matt Boswell ranks second in the Sun Belt in strikeouts (66), tied for second in innings pitched (59.2) and complete games (1), tied for third in wins (5) and seventh in walks allowed (12). Boswell has allowed three earned runs or fewer in his last four starts, dating back to April 2 at Georgia State, which spans 23 2/3 innings. He has recorded 20 strikeouts and issued five walks during that stretch. Boswell has posted five quality starts this season, with his most recent coming in last weekend's series opener against Georgia Southern.

JAGS IN NATIONAL, SBC RANKINGS

The South Alabama pitching staff ranks 10th in hits allowed per nine innings (7.56), 12th in WHIP (1.24) and 14th in shutouts (4) - all of which lead the Sun Belt Conference. The Jags also lead the league in ERA (4.04), fewest hits allowed (294), runs allowed (175) and opponent batting average (.229), and rank second in earned runs allowed (157) and walks allowed (140).

STOKES TIED FOR LEAGUE LEAD IN DOUBLES

First baseman Hunter Stokes enters the week tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead in doubles (14). His last double came April 19 at Southeastern Louisiana.

ORBETA IN SBC RANKINGS

Second baseman Erick Orbeta ranks second in the SBC in walks (31) entering the series. Orbeta has drawn seven walks in his last four games, including a career-high four walks in Tuesday's win over Tulane. He also ranks tied for sixth in the league in runs scored (36).

ALTAMIRANO SECOND IN OBP

Catcher Diego Altamirano ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in on-base percentage (.478) entering the series. Altamirano has reached base safely in 24 straight games.

169 AND COUNTING

Shortstop Santi Montiel has started 169 consecutive games - every game since he joined the program in 2019 - with his 150th coming in the series finale with UT Arlington on March 20.

MONTIEL CAREER VERSUS TEXAS STATE

Shortstop Santi Montiel has batted .381 (8-for-21) with one double, one RBI and two runs scored in six career games played against Texas State, and has posted a .480 on-base percentage.

The Jaguars are 20-0 when leading after seven innings this season, but are 0-12 when trailing after seven frames and 3-4 when the score is tied through seven.

SCORE 6 OR MORE

South Alabama is 19-5 when scoring six or more runs this season, but 4-11 when scoring five or fewer.

OUTHITTING THE OPPOSITION

South Alabama is 22-3 when outhitting opponents this season, but is 1-10 when being out-hit and 0-3 when hits are tied. South Alabama was out-hit in two of three games last weekend against Georgia Southern. The Jaguars have been out-hit in five of its last six games, with the exception coming in game two of the Georgia Southern series when each team recorded seven hits apiece.

The Jags are 21-5 when holding opponents to five or less runs this season, but are 2-11 when allowing six or more. USA held Georgia Southern to five runs in the series opener, but fell to 5-4.

JAGS WITH BASES LOADED

The Jags are batting .149 (7-for-47) with the bases loaded this season. USA has loaded the bags 24 times in its last 13 games, and is 2-for-24 during that stretch for a .083 batting average.
