Gov. Kay Ivey has extended the Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement.
In general, facial coverings are required to “cover nostrils and mouth at all times when within six feet of a person from another household” when the person is in an indoor space open to the general public or outdoor public space with ten or more people.
The governor pointed out that there could be possible changes in the near future but a mask mandate would still need to be in place for several weeks even if other states have been easing up on their restrictions. Alabama, at this time won’t.
“So most states have taken to remove the mask order altogether and lift up the restrictions. Folks, we’re not there yet, but goodness knows we are getting closer,” Ivey said, according to The Epoch Times.
“A new modified order will include several changes that will ease up some of our current restrictions, while keeping our mask order in place for another five weeks,” the governor added.
Ivey extended the order until Friday, April 9, 2021, at 5 p.m.
“We need to get past Easter," Ivey said, NBC News reported.
