CITY OF MOBILE: A Message from Mayor Stimpson - August 6

Coronavirus update920

City of Mobile issued the following announcement on Aug. 6.

Mobile County reported a total of 9,536 COVID positive individuals, an increase of 175 individuals. According to the Mobile County Health Department, a total of 212 patients have died due to COVID-19.

I was encouraged while speaking with Brad Pitts of Synergy Labs. His company test 1,500 to 2,000 results per day. Based on their lab data, Pitts sees evidence that wearing face coverings is working. Together, we are helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Although our focus has been COVID-19, hurricane season is here. The Atlantic hurricane season is about to reach what is most often its busiest time. NOAA states the 2020 season has the potential to be the "busiest on record" for the Atlantic, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. The forecast suggests that we could see 19-25 named storms, 7-11 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes. It is important to be prepared.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have written about the many Zoom meetings and conference calls I have had with business leaders, non-profits, homeless organizations and civic leaders. Our collaborations didn't begin during COVID-19. Our team engages citizens, businesses and organizations across our City and across this nation consistently. We are in constant communication with our partners and have been since the beginning of my administration.

In time of need, especially in time of uncertainty, we can call on our partners to work with us. From feeding the homeless to donating personal protective gear, I am grateful for the partnerships we have nurtured. My hope is that we all increase our circles and continue to extend our hand to meet the needs of our neighbor. This is what makes the heartbeat of our city so strong.
