U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Roger Marshall of Kansas have introduced the Overtime Wages Tax Relief Act, a legislative proposal aimed at providing tax relief for workers earning overtime wages. The bill proposes a tax deduction for overtime earnings up to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for married couples, focusing on middle-income earners.
Senator Tuberville stated, “President Trump campaigned and won on a promise to cut taxes for millions of Americans working overtime—and we are delivering on that promise.” He emphasized the importance of not penalizing those who work beyond standard hours with higher taxes. Tuberville highlighted Alabama’s precedent in passing overtime tax exemptions and expressed hope that federal legislation would follow suit.
Senator Marshall added, “President Trump promised relief for millions of hardworking Americans, and we’re proud to help deliver on that with the Overtime Wages Tax Relief Act.” He stressed the significance of allowing Kansans to retain more of their earnings as part of President Trump’s pro-worker agenda.
The bill is co-sponsored by Senators Jim Justice from West Virginia and Pete Ricketts from Nebraska. The Wall Street Journal initially reported on the introduction of this legislation.
