U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Chuck Grassley have introduced the Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act, aimed at ensuring the legal status of workers in the United States. The proposed legislation seeks to permanently authorize and expand the E-Verify program, an internet-based tool designed to verify whether employees are permitted to work in the U.S.

The legislation aims to extend E-Verify access to businesses located in rural areas or places lacking internet connectivity. Senator Tuberville, who cosponsored this bill in the 118th Congress, emphasized the importance of expanding the program to protect jobs for American workers and to aid businesses in staffing legally.

Senator Tuberville stated, “So many families are still struggling to make ends meet from four years of Joe Biden’s disastrous economic policies. Congress’ top priority should be strengthening American businesses and protecting good-paying jobs. Expanding the E-Verify program to every business across the country will protect jobs for American workers and give employers the tools they need to legally staff their companies. We must get serious about enforcing all of our country’s immigration laws, including those pertaining to participation in the workforce.”

Senator Grassley highlighted E-Verify as a reliable tool for ensuring legal employment practices. He said, “E-Verify is a proven tool for employers, including myself, to ensure our businesses are legally staffed. By reducing incentives for illegal immigration and safeguarding job opportunities for Americans and other legal workers, our bill would boost accountability in the workforce and support our nation’s small businesses.”

Joining Tuberville and Grassley in cosponsoring this legislation are Senators Katie Britt, Shelley Moore Capito, Ted Cruz, Joni Ernst, James Lankford, and Mike Lee.

Senator Tommy Tuberville serves as a U.S. Senator from Alabama and is a member of several Senate committees, including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging.
