U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville of Alabama and Jim Banks of Indiana have introduced the No Loan Forgiveness for Terrorists Act, a bill that aims to prevent students from receiving Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) if they work at organizations involved in illegal activities. This legislation seeks to solidify an Executive Order from former President Trump, which sought to eliminate taxpayer-funded student loan forgiveness for those participating in unlawful and anti-American behavior.
Senator Tuberville emphasized, “Hard-working Americans should not be footing the bill for radical students who support and embolden blatant terrorism. No one should be rewarded for wreaking havoc on college campuses.” He expressed his intention to collaborate with fellow lawmakers to advance this legislation and halt funding for education that supports terrorism.
Senator Banks added, “Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to pay student loans for radicals who aid terrorists, mutilate children, or promote illegal immigration. This bill codifies President Trump’s order to stop subsidizing anti-American extremism.”
The proposed act would block students from gaining credit through the PSLF program while employed by organizations engaged in specified activities deemed illegal.
Previously, Senator Tuberville co-sponsored the No Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act. This earlier initiative aimed to prevent pro-Hamas protestors convicted of crimes from having their student loans forgiven.
Tuberville currently serves as Chairman of the HELP Subcommittee on Education and the American Family and is known for his stance against antisemitism, riots, and lawlessness on college campuses. He advocates for free speech but insists that those breaking laws should face legal consequences.
