U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and John Hoeven have introduced a resolution under the Congressional Review Act to repeal a rule proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency. This rule, part of the Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act, introduces a new tax on natural gas production. The senators argue that this tax would increase reliance on foreign energy sources and raise energy costs for consumers.
Senator Tuberville stated, "For the last four years, Americans have felt the impacts of Bidenflation from the gas pump to the grocery store." He added that Democrats have shut down offshore drilling, making the U.S. dependent on foreign adversaries for energy without considering its impact on daily life. Tuberville emphasized his desire to overturn what he described as a "disastrous methane tax" and work towards making America energy independent again.
Joining Tuberville and Hoeven in this initiative are several other Republican senators including Roger Marshall, Mike Lee, James Lankford, Steve Daines, Kevin Cramer, Katie Britt, Shelley Moore Capito, Cynthia Lummis, James Risch, Rick Scott, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Crapo, Jim Justice, John Kennedy, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Mike Rounds, Tim Sheehy, Thom Tillis, Markwayne Mullin, Roger Wicker, Pete Ricketts and John Barrasso.
Senator Tuberville has been active in opposing measures by the Biden administration related to American energy policy. He has expressed concerns about rising energy costs affecting Americans and Alabamians working in the Gulf's energy industry. Additionally, he has highlighted how increased energy costs impact farmers' profitability and stressed the importance of reducing these costs to support small family farms.
Tuberville has previously collaborated with Senator Ted Cruz in efforts to repeal taxes on natural gas as part of broader attempts to bolster American energy security.
