U.S. Senators Tommy Tuberville and Ted Cruz have reintroduced legislation aimed at repealing the Natural Gas Tax outlined in the Biden administration's Inflation Reduction Act. This bill, initially introduced in May 2024, seeks to remove a methane emissions charge that could lead to increased costs for energy companies and taxpayers.
Senator Tuberville expressed his concerns about the current administration's energy policies, stating, "The Biden administration has once again prioritized woke climate activists over the American people." He criticized President Biden for what he perceives as an attack on American energy, leading to higher costs and job losses. Tuberville emphasized his support for the legislation by saying it prioritizes American families and aims for energy independence.
Senator Cruz echoed these sentiments, highlighting the economic challenges faced by Americans due to Democratic policies. "Democratic policies have forced Americans to endure historic inflation and economic pain, and have jeopardized American energy independence and national security," said Cruz. He urged his colleagues to pass the legislation quickly.
The proposed legislation is backed by several U.S. Senators including Katie Britt of Alabama, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Eric Schmitt of Missouri, and Tim Sheehy of Montana. It also has support from various industry groups such as the US Oil & Gas Association (USOGA), American Exploration and Production Council (AXPC), Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), among others.
Senator Tommy Tuberville serves Alabama in the United States Senate and is part of several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP, and Aging Committees.
