U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville, along with fellow Senators Katie Britt and Ted Budd, has announced the introduction of the Laken Riley Act. This legislation requires U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to arrest illegal aliens who commit theft-related offenses and mandates their detention until they are removed from the United States. The bill also allows states to bring civil actions against federal officials who do not enforce immigration laws.

The Laken Riley Act was initially introduced in the House by Congressman Mike Collins and was cosponsored by Sen. Tuberville in March 2024.

Senator Tuberville expressed his support for the bill, stating: "No family should have to go through what the Riley family has endured over the last year." He attributed Laken Riley's death to "Joe Biden’s open borders" and emphasized that "legislation like the Laken Riley Act will help President Trump restore law and order."

Senator Britt echoed this sentiment, highlighting the impact of open border policies on American families: "Laken’s murder was the direct consequence of willful open border policies," she said. She stressed that Congress must pass this legislation swiftly to prevent similar tragedies.

Senator Budd added, "What happened to Laken Riley should never happen to any American citizen," emphasizing that the act would enable stricter enforcement of immigration laws under a new administration.

A large group of senators, including Jim Banks, John Barrasso, Marsha Blackburn, Susan Collins, Tom Cotton, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott among others joined in supporting this legislation.

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs.
