U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has delivered a speech criticizing the Biden-Harris administration's handling of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Tuberville argued that the war is unwinnable and is costing American taxpayers billions of dollars.
"The Biden-Harris Administration needs to negotiate a peace agreement now . . . or there will be disastrous consequences coming in the very near future," Tuberville stated during his floor speech.
Tuberville expressed concerns about the lack of clear objectives from the administration regarding its involvement in Ukraine. "Over the last several months, I’ve asked multiple high-ranking members of the Biden-Harris administration to articulate what it is trying to accomplish in Ukraine. Just tell us. Tell us what it will cost and how we plan to achieve these results," he said.
He also criticized NATO's expansion, arguing that it has contributed to tensions with Russia. "NATO was formed 75 years ago in 1949 as a defensive alliance to counter the communist Soviet Union... Today, NATO includes three countries that border Russia. Six NATO members are former Warsaw Pact members."
Tuberville highlighted what he sees as failures in U.S. foreign policy under President Joe Biden, including actions related to Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan. He suggested that these decisions have emboldened adversaries like China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea.
"Despite the administration’s incompetence, I still believe Putin was wrong to invade Ukraine," Tuberville added. He emphasized that while he opposes Russian aggression, he does not believe that Ukraine's border is more important than America's own borders.
The senator concluded by calling for immediate negotiations to end the conflict: "Now is the time for the U.S. to lead and negotiate a peace to end this bloody war."
Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and serves on several committees including Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP.
