Former Men’s Basketball standout Mitchell to compete in the NBA Summer League

Former University of South Alabama Trhae Mitchell has been called up by the Houston Rockets' to compete on the organization's NBA Summer League team.

Mitchell and the Rockets will begin NBA 2k23 Summer League action Thursday night at 9 p.m. (CT) versus the Orlando Magic at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., which will be aired on ESPN.

Earlier this spring, Mitchell helped the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, an affiliate of the Rockets, capture the G-League Championship with a 131-114 win over the Delaware Blue Coats.

The guard appeared in 28 games this season for the Vipers, averaging 9.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks while shooting over 50 percent from the floor. He recorded double figures 16 times throughout the season and finished with six double-doubles.

His best outing came in a 117-107 win over the Oklahoma City Blue where he dropped in 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, connecting on all three of his attempts from beyond the arc, while pulling down 10 rebounds and three steals and three blocks.

 

Mitchell earned third-team all-Sun Belt during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, finishing his Jaguar career with 1,127 points, 704 rebounds, 310 assists, 185 blocks and 110 steals in 125 appearances in four years with the program. The guard is third in school history in career blocks and is sixth in the record books in rebounds. The former Jag is also the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in the same season, and the second to have 200 rebounds and 100 assists in one year.
