South Alabama Soccer secured a 4-0 win over Middle Tennessee on Thursday night at The Cage in Mobile. The Jaguars scored their final goal with just two seconds remaining.

The first goal came in the 28th minute, when Florida transfer Zamiyah Hill scored her first career goal for South Alabama, assisted by Aliya Gomes and Andrea Iljkic. In the 68th minute, Gomes set up true freshman Sofia Ferrante from Toronto for a left-footed strike. Nine minutes later, Gomes added a goal of her own after a deflected shot by Ferrante. With two seconds left in regulation, Ferrante assisted Iljkic for the fourth and final goal.

Both Gomes and Ferrante finished the match with one goal and two assists each. These were the first career goals for both players as Jaguars. Ferrante now leads the team in assists (four) and shots-on-goal (five), while Hill leads in total shots this season with 15. Iljkic became the team’s first multi-goal scorer of the season, totaling two goals so far.

Defender Amelia Campanella has played every minute this season as part of a defense that has conceded only two goals in four games.

Head Coach Chris Hennessey said, “A really good win … They’ve done a great job … I can’t be more happy for this group. We’ll keep going one game at a time.” Forward Aliya Gomes commented, “I feel like [over] the last two games we’ve really worked as a team. I feel like what we’ve been working on at practice has been really coming out in the games. This win was huge for us.”

South Alabama will next host Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, August 31 at The Cage for Senior Night.
