South Alabama women’s basketball will play Georgia State on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama. The Jaguars, with a record of 9-8 overall and 2-5 in Sun Belt Conference play, are aiming for their third conference win this season.

The history between the two teams stands at 12 wins for South Alabama and 15 for Georgia State. Their most recent meeting was on February 13, 2025, in Atlanta, where South Alabama lost to Georgia State in double overtime by a score of 78-69.

In their last game, South Alabama lost to Coastal Carolina 63-59 on January 17. Cordasia Harris made an impact with 15 rebounds, marking the highest single-game total for a Jaguar since the 2020-21 season. Harris ranks among the top ten nationally in offensive rebounds per game (4.4) and double-doubles (10). She is also currently the only player on her team averaging a double-double this season with averages of 13.47 points and over ten rebounds per game.

South Alabama holds second place in the Sun Belt Conference for both three-point shooting percentage (35.5%) and three-point defense (27.2%). Tamara Ortiz has recently posted her best performances of the season with back-to-back scoring highs: she scored 13 points against ULM on January 10 and followed that with 14 points against Coastal Carolina.

A win would give South Alabama its third league victory of the year and mark its first win over Georgia State since January 29, 2021.

Georgia State comes into Thursday’s contest after defeating Appalachian State 79-57 on January 17. Four Panthers scored in double figures during that game, including Crystal Henderson who led all scorers with 27 points. Henderson leads her team this season in scoring average (15.95 points), assists (77), and steals (44), while ranking second in the conference for field goal attempts.

The Panthers lead the Sun Belt Conference in free throw attempts per game (21.95) and are second in free throws made per game (14.95). Their backcourt is ranked among the top programs nationally—22nd in steals per game (12.1) and 24th in turnover margin (6.16).

Thursday’s match will be available to stream on ESPN+, with live statistics provided via StatBroadcast. Fans can follow live updates through South Alabama’s official social media channels.
