South Alabama women’s basketball lost to Coastal Carolina 63-59 on Saturday in Conway, South Carolina. The Jaguars now hold a 9-8 overall record and are 2-5 in Sun Belt Conference play.

The game began with both teams struggling offensively, as neither side scored a field goal until the fourth minute. By the end of the first quarter, South Alabama trailed 15-10. In the second quarter, the Jaguars experienced a four-minute scoring drought but managed to close out the half with help from Tamara Ortiz, who contributed seven points in that period.

After halftime, South Alabama’s frontcourt started strong with an 8-2 run led by Chrysta Narcisse, who scored eight points in three minutes. Amyah Sutton added momentum late in the third quarter by hitting consecutive three-pointers, giving the Jaguars their largest lead of four points. The team posted 29 points in the third quarter—more than their combined total from the first two quarters and their highest single-quarter output since playing Louisiana Tech on December 4, 2025.

Despite leading 50-48 at the end of the third quarter, South Alabama was outscored by Coastal Carolina 15-9 in the final period. The Chanticleers took control with four minutes remaining and held off two comeback attempts by South Alabama to secure victory.

Tamara Ortiz finished with a season-high 14 points and has now set new personal bests for scoring in consecutive games. Cordasia Harris recorded her tenth double-double of the season with 15 rebounds and 10 points; this marks her second straight game with at least 15 rebounds—a feat not achieved by a Jaguar player in six years.

South Alabama will return home to face Georgia State at Mitchell Center on Thursday at 7 p.m. CST.
