South Alabama women’s basketball secured a 57-43 victory over Southern Miss on Wednesday at the Mitchell Center. With this result, the Jaguars improved to 11-17 overall and 4-13 in league play, splitting their home-and-home series with the Lady Eagles.

The game opened with South Alabama taking an early lead, driven by three-point shots from Chrysta Narcisse and Diawna Carter-Hartley. The Jaguars finished the first quarter ahead, 12-10. In the second quarter, South Alabama increased its offensive output, shooting 9-for-15 from the field and scoring 22 points while limiting Southern Miss to just seven points.

A key stretch came when Narcisse and Cordasia Harris led a 17-3 run late in the second quarter, helping South Alabama build a 34-17 halftime advantage. Narcisse contributed eight points during this period and ended the half with 15 points.

Southern Miss reduced the deficit to 14 early in the third quarter before Amyah Sutton’s jumper started a seven-point run for South Alabama. This gave them their largest lead of the day at 21 points with under six minutes left in the third. Both teams struggled offensively late in that period until Southern Miss broke a three-minute drought with a three-pointer.

Entering the fourth quarter up by 18, South Alabama saw its lead cut to 11 before Sutton scored eight quick points to secure the win.

Defensively, South Alabama held Southern Miss to just 20.8% shooting from the field—a season-low for their opponent—and limited them to only 12.9% from beyond the arc. This win marked South Alabama’s first season with consecutive Sun Belt victories since 2020-21 and was Head Coach Yolisha Jackson’s first time achieving back-to-back league wins.

Chrysta Narcisse set a new career high by scoring 21 points, along with eight rebounds. She made seven of nine field goals, two of four three-pointers, and five of six free throws. The Jaguars did not trail at any point against Southern Miss—their first time doing so against a Sun Belt opponent this season.

Cordasia Harris posted her first double-double since January by recording ten points and thirteen rebounds. As a team, South Alabama collected fifty-four rebounds—one short of their season high.

Head Coach Yolisha Jackson commented on her team’s performance: “Our team did a phenomenal job tonight, especially on the defensive end. When you hold a team to 20.8% from the field, that means your kids are locked in and taking away other teams’ strengths. I think this team has found its rhythm and is back in stride.”

Jackson also praised Narcisse: “Our team’s performance tonight was amazing, and it all started with Chrysta Narcisse – the way she was able to get the ball moving for others first and then getting herself in a groove. But, she also didn’t forget to defend. When you’ve got a point guard who can start others off and provide, it’s really nice.”

Guard Chrysta Narcisse said: “I’m excited to get the win, especially especially coming off a win last week. We’re trying to get momentum going into the Sun Belt Tournament, so I’m happy about that.”

South Alabama will next host Troy on Friday for their regular-season finale at Mitchell Center.
