South Alabama Track & Field began its indoor season with several strong performances at the Samford Invitational and Samford Clash in Birmingham. The team achieved multiple event wins, podium finishes, and set marks that rank among the program’s best.
Devin Dahunsi led the Jaguars in field events by winning the triple jump with a distance of 15.36 meters, which is now the second-best indoor mark in school history. Dahunsi also competed in the long jump to contribute to a successful day for South Alabama’s horizontal jumps group.
In multi-events, Calli Stokes won the women’s pentathlon with 3,460 points. On the men’s side, Samuel Warriner secured first place in the heptathlon with 5,216 points—ranking third all-time for South Alabama indoors.
Kayden Engel took first place in the high jump by clearing 1.76 meters. Aubrey Evans earned a podium spot as well with a clearance of 1.61 meters.
The throws group built on last season’s momentum. Samuel Mika won the weight throw at 18.98 meters—the second-best result ever for South Alabama—while Bobby Gray finished third at 18.15 meters, which places him sixth on South Alabama’s all-time list. Joshua Acker also finished among the top six competitors.
On the women’s side, Iyana Johnson reached two podiums: fifth in triple jump and second in weight throw. Flora Dupans was runner-up in shot put and placed fourth in weight throw.
Brady Keller opened his indoor campaign by winning the men’s mile with a time of 4:10.10 and finishing second in the 3,000 meters race. Jordan Morrison came fourth in the 800 meters event.
The Jaguars will compete next at LSU’s Bayou Bengal Invitational on Friday, January 23.
