South Alabama Track & Field recorded three event victories and several top performances at the LSU Opener on March 21, with athletes achieving new marks on the program’s all-time lists.
The results highlight a strong start to the outdoor season for South Alabama, as team members earned podium finishes across multiple disciplines. The meet serves as an early indicator of form ahead of upcoming competitions.
Iyana Johnson led the Jaguars by winning the women’s triple jump with a distance of 12.06 meters and finishing second in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.39 meters. Terek Logan claimed first place in the men’s pole vault, clearing 5.25 meters. Calli Stokes added another victory for South Alabama by taking the women’s javelin title with a throw of 42.23 meters.
Other notable performances included Dawson Wright’s second-place finish in the shot put, which moved him into ninth place in program history, and strong showings from Samuel Mika and Reuben Booysen in the men’s hammer throw, placing third and fourth respectively. Kayden Engel finished second in the high jump with a season-best clearance, while Jamie Willis secured second place in the long jump and placed among the top six in the 100-meter hurdles.
On the track, Jordan Morrison finished third in the 800 meters with a time that ranks fifth all-time for South Alabama. In hurdles events, Presleigh Montalvo led four Jaguars into the top eight of the women’s 100-meter hurdles, recording a time that is now third-fastest in school history.
Looking ahead, South Alabama will divide its squad to compete at both the Florida State Relays and Raleigh Relays on March 26-27.
