South Alabama Track and Field secures six wins at split meet weekend

South Alabama Track and Field collected six event wins during a split meet weekend at the Doc Anderson Invitational in Troy, Alabama, and the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, according to an April 4 announcement.

The performances are significant as they include multiple meet records and several podium finishes across both men’s and women’s events. These results highlight strong individual efforts as well as overall team depth for South Alabama.

At the Doc Anderson Invitational, Samuel Warriner won the decathlon with 7,012 points after victories in the 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, and long jump. Calli Stokes finished second in the heptathlon with 5,100 points by winning both shot put and javelin events.

In Hattiesburg at the Southern Miss Invitational, Samuel Mika set a meet record in men’s hammer throw with a distance of 61.33 meters. Reuben Booysen was runner-up while Joshua Acker and Mose Piper also placed among the top ten. Iyana Johnson took first place in women’s hammer throw at 58.69 meters with Flora Dupans finishing third.

Will Frederick cleared a personal best of 5.35 meters to win men’s pole vault with a new meet record; Diana Goodman led a one-two finish for South Alabama women by clearing a meet-record height of 3.95 meters ahead of Caitlynn Morgan. In javelin competition, Karleigh Mills won on the women’s side while Brody Hamilton set his own personal-best mark to finish second for men.

Other notable performances included season or personal bests from Jakayla Kirk (200m/400m), Olivia Bordes (400m), Ben Klapp (men’s 400m), Hannah Quick and Katie Giles (1500m), Carlder Datilus (triple jump), and Devin Dahunsi (top-eight triple jump).

The team’s achievements this weekend add to their momentum heading into future competitions.
