South Alabama’s track and field teams achieved five event wins at the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational in Baton Rouge. The Jaguars also secured several podium finishes and saw new entries into their program record books.
Will Frederick won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.10 meters, which is his best performance this season. This result ranks him 57th nationally in the NCAA and 52nd among Division I schools. Frederick also recorded the sixth fastest time in the 60 meters at 6.85 seconds.
The women’s 4×400 meter relay team—composed of Kayden Engel, Taylor Canada, A. Jones, and M. Johnson—finished first with a season-best time of 4:03.75.
Jordan Morrison claimed victory in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.20.
Iyana Johnson had a strong showing by winning the weight throw with a season-best mark of 17.94 meters and placing second in the triple jump at 11.74 meters.
Samuel Mika took first place in shot put with a personal record throw of 17.66 meters, which is now the second-best throw in school history. He also finished fourth in weight throw with an effort of 18.67 meters.
Jamie Willis earned second place in long jump (5.46m), while Ashton Mitchell placed eighth (6.75m). Carlder Datilus competed in both long jump and triple jump, recording a distance of 14.15 meters in triple jump.
Joshua Acker set a personal record in weight throw at 18.60 meters to finish fifth overall; his mark is now fourth all-time for South Alabama.
Presleigh Montalvo qualified for both the 60 meters and 60 meter hurdles finals, taking third place in hurdles with a personal best of 8.64 seconds that puts her third on South Alabama’s all-time list.
Abigail Amick posted a personal best of 11:29.25 to finish seventh in the women’s 3000 meters.
The Jaguars will next host the USA Invitational at Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
