South Alabama will host Old Dominion at Stanky Field for a Sun Belt Conference weekend baseball series, with the opener scheduled for March 26 at 6:30 p.m. The matchup marks Old Dominion’s first visit to Stanky Field since 1990.
The upcoming series is significant as it brings together two teams with a competitive history in the conference. The Monarchs currently hold a slight edge in the all-time series, leading South Alabama six games to four. Their last meeting at Stanky Field was during the 1990 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The three-game set continues Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. start and concludes Sunday at noon. South Alabama enters the series with a record of 16-9 overall and an even split in conference play, while Old Dominion stands at .500 on the season (12-12) and has two wins in conference action so far this year.
Pitching matchups are set for each game, featuring Mitchell Heer (3-0, 3.97 ERA) starting Friday for South Alabama against Darin Kuskie (2-3, 8.34 ERA) of Old Dominion. Ryland Bozenhard will take the mound Saturday for South Alabama after transitioning from bullpen duties earlier this season, while Daniel Gonzalez leads Sunday’s rotation as he tops his team’s pitching staff in strikeouts.
Key players include Brennon—who leads the Sun Belt Conference in batting average (.407), ranks third in hits (37), and holds first place in on-base percentage (.530)—and Blake Guerin, who is second in home runs within the conference after hitting three homers against ULM last week and leading his team with 28 RBIs.
Reliever Jaxon Shineflew has been notable out of the bullpen with dominant performances including back-to-back four-inning saves without allowing any hits or earned runs earlier this season; he currently ranks first among relievers in WHIP (0.85).
