South Alabama is set to play against New Orleans on Mar. 30 in a midweek baseball game at Stanky Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
The matchup continues a long-standing rivalry between the two teams, who have faced each other more than any other opponents in South Alabama’s program history. The game marks the first of two meetings this season, with South Alabama planning to travel to New Orleans for another contest on Apr. 29.
South Alabama leads the all-time series with a record of 100-68 over New Orleans but enters the game after losing four straight matchups against them since 2023. At home, South Alabama has won 57 out of 82 games against New Orleans but dropped their last two home contests, including a significant loss by a score of 13-2 in their most recent meeting at Stanky Field in 2025.
New Orleans comes into this game following a sweep by Southeastern Louisiana and has yet to win a weekend series this season. The Privateers also have an overall record of zero wins and five losses against Sun Belt Conference teams so far this year and will face McNeese after playing South Alabama.
Pitching for South Alabama will be Hayden O’Dell, who previously played for New Orleans and started nine games there with an undefeated record before joining his current team. Jack Garvey is listed as the probable starting pitcher for New Orleans.
First baseman Blake Guerin currently leads his team in home runs and ranks high within both the Sun Belt Conference and nationally among Division I players. Brennon Wright is also among conference leaders in batting average, hits, and on-base percentage while ranking nationally among second basemen.
