The Sun Belt and Mid-American Conferences have revealed the initial matchups for the 2025-26 MAC-SBC Challenge. The South Alabama women’s basketball team will face Akron on Monday, November 3, at the Mitchell Center.
This challenge involves a scheduling alliance where 13 teams from each conference compete against one another. The competition consists of two rounds: the first round begins the 2025-26 season, while the second occurs midway through the season.
Matchups are determined based on projected NET rankings, geography, and previous encounters. Each participating team is assured one home game and one away game during the season.
South Alabama’s Head Coach Yolisha Jackson anticipates hosting Akron after not participating in last year’s challenge. Akron concluded their last season with a record of 10-21 overall and 4-14 in conference play. This event marks the first meeting between South Alabama’s Jaguars and Akron’s Zips.
The Jaguars will have several returning players, including Daniela Gonzalez and Chrysta Narcisse, who both started in at least 13 games last season. Gonzalez was noted as the team’s second-highest scorer in the previous season.
All MAC-SBC Challenge games will be broadcasted on an ESPN platform.
