The Sun Belt Conference has announced the matchups for the 2025 MAC-SBC Challenge. South Alabama’s men’s basketball team is set to play against Toledo on November 3, marking a road game for the Jaguars.
This event, now in its third year, is part of a scheduling alliance between the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and the Sun Belt Conference. The 2025 edition will feature 13 games, with teams from the Sun Belt traveling to face MAC opponents. Matchups are based on projected NET rankings for the upcoming season. Each participating team will have one home and one away game as part of this series.
South Alabama enters this season after an impressive 2024-25 performance. The Jaguars were initially predicted to finish 11th in their conference but ended up with a 21-11 record and won their first Sun Belt regular-season title since 2008.
Key players returning for South Alabama include John Broom, Jayden Cooper, Maxwell Land, JJ Wheat, and Randy Brady. They will be joined by newcomers such as NAIA All-Americans Chaze Harris and Peyton Law, Division II standout Brian Hawthorne, junior college player Stephen Williams, Canadian shooter Adam Olsen, and freshmen Sam Shoptaw and Desmond Williams.
The upcoming game against Toledo will be only the second meeting between these teams. Their last encounter was during the 2000-01 season when Toledo secured a victory in overtime at the NIT postseason tournament.
Toledo comes off an 18-15 season that saw them reach the semifinals of the MAC Championship Tournament. Under head coach Tod Kowalczyk’s leadership, they have won four outright MAC titles over the past five seasons. Returning standout guard Sonny Wilson averaged 15.2 points per game last year.
All games in the MAC-SBC Challenge will be available on ESPN platforms.
