South Alabama will continue its seven-game road stretch with a weekend baseball series against Georgia Southern, beginning Friday, Apr. 9 at 5:30 p.m. The Jaguars currently hold a record of 19-14 overall and are even at 6-6 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Eagles stand at 11-21 overall and 4-8 in conference games.
This matchup is significant as both teams look to improve their positions within the Sun Belt Conference. South Alabama leads the all-time series against Georgia Southern with a record of 22-17 since their first meeting in 1987. However, recent contests have been competitive; the Eagles swept South Alabama during their last visit to Statesboro in the previous season, but the Jaguars won two out of three games when they hosted Georgia Southern in Mobile last year.
The scheduled pitching matchups feature Mitchell Heer (4-1, 4.85 ERA) for South Alabama facing Will Holder (1-3, 6.96 ERA) for Georgia Southern on Friday night. Saturday’s game will see Ryland Bozenhard (0-1, 4.15 ERA) take on Carter DeGondea (1-2, 9.58 ERA), and Sunday’s finale matches Daniel Gonzalez (3-2, 3.20 ERA) against Alex Mason (2-1, 7.81 ERA). All games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Jags Radio Network.
Georgia Southern started its season with eight straight losses but has since improved with non-conference wins over USC-Upstate and Tennessee Tech as well as an upset victory over then-No.11 Clemson earlier this year. In conference play so far this season, they have experienced mixed results including being swept by James Madison University and dropping two out of three games to Marshall before securing a key win over Troy.
