South Alabama is set to participate in the 54th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, which will take place from March 28-30 at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The tournament will feature a three-day, 54-hole format and begins on Saturday morning with a split tee start at 7:30 a.m. Central Time.
The event brings together sixteen teams, including host Georgia, Alabama, Florida Gulf Coast, High Point, Indiana, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Queens, Rutgers, Toledo, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky. South Carolina is also scheduled to have individuals competing in the field. South Alabama will be paired with Rutgers and Western Kentucky for Saturday’s opening round and will begin play on hole one.
Live scoring links for each round will be available on USAJaguars.com. The Jaguars’ lineup features Anna Behnsen (teeing off at 8:51 a.m.), Mercedes Aldana (8:42 a.m.), Daniela Palmeros (8:33 a.m.), Lillian Buehle (8:24 a.m.), and McKenna Murphy (8:15 a.m.).
South Alabama enters the tournament after winning its last outing at the Magnolia Collegiate title. Behnsen leads the team in strokes per round with an average of 73.04 and has recorded four Top-10 finishes this season as well as three sub-70 rounds. Palmeros holds an average of 74.92 strokes per round and is second on the team with 47 birdies; she also claimed medalist honors at the Fifth Annual Evie Odom Invitational hosted by Old Dominion during the fall.
Several teams in this year’s field are ranked among the top seventy-five nationally: Indiana (42), Alabama (56), Georgia (58), Florida Gulf Coast (63) and Penn State (68).
