South Alabama’s softball team is set to play two midweek games, starting with a road match against No. 20 LSU on Tuesday at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, followed by a home game against McNeese State on Wednesday at Jaguar Field in Mobile.
The game against LSU is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on SECNetwork+, while the matchup with McNeese State begins at 5 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+. Live statistics and streaming links can be found on the South Alabama schedule page.
LSU leads the all-time series against South Alabama 15-2, including a current 10-game winning streak and a record of 15 wins in 16 meetings in Baton Rouge. South Alabama’s only win at Tiger Park came during the 2015 season. In contrast, the Jaguars hold an 8-6 edge over McNeese State in their series history but have dropped the last two meetings.
These contests mark the first time that South Alabama has played back-to-back midweek games in program history. The two games also begin a stretch where the Jaguars will play six times in six days as they host the South Alabama Invitational this weekend.
Several players are entering these games with notable performances. Gracie Dees holds an eight-game hitting streak, while Presley Lively has reached base safely in all ten games this spring. Seven different Jaguars have hit home runs so far this season; Olivia Branstetter and Lillie Stagner each have two homers.
This year, nearly half of South Alabama’s hits (47 percent) have been for extra bases—31 out of 66—including doubles, triples, and home runs. This marks an increase from last season when only about one-quarter (27 percent) of their hits went for extra bases.
South Alabama is currently undefeated this spring against both Southeastern Conference and Southland Conference opponents after defeating Missouri and Southeastern Louisiana at the NFCA Leadoff Classic during opening weekend.
