South Alabama Jaguars Women’s Soccer secured their first win of the season on Sunday, defeating Tennessee Tech 2-0 at home.
The match opened with a goal in the 11th minute when Victoria Rocci delivered a corner kick to Melina Descary, who scored her first goal for the Jaguars since the 2023 season. The team extended its lead in the 75th minute after Andrea Iljkic received a pass from Sofia Ferrante and found the back of the net for her debut goal with South Alabama.
Goalkeeper Jaidin Kinch achieved her first career clean sheet, successfully stopping both shots she faced during the game. Defenders Amelia Campanella and Bonnie Frost each played all 90 minutes for a second consecutive match.
Head Coach Chris Hennessey said, “I’m really proud of the week that they’ve had, and to come out 1-1 and get over the line today – [that was] very important.”
Iljkic added, “I think [we had] a big win, especially after Thursday’s game against LSU … I think [that] as a team we did well and pushed through [the heat].”
South Alabama is set to play next on Thursday, August 21, traveling to face Samford at Samford Track & Soccer Stadium in Birmingham.
