South Alabama women’s basketball will face Georgia Southern at the Mitchell Center in Mobile on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Jaguars currently hold a 9-9 overall record and are 2-6 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Eagles come into the matchup with a 14-5 record and stand at 7-2 in conference games.
The two teams have played each other 27 times, with South Alabama trailing slightly in the series at 13-14. Their most recent meeting ended in a loss for the Jaguars, who fell to Georgia Southern by a score of 95-68 on February 15, 2025.
South Alabama is coming off a close overtime defeat to Georgia State, finishing with a score of 78-75. It was their third overtime game out of the last five matchups. In that contest, five players from South Alabama scored double figures. Tamara Ortiz has shown consistent improvement over her last three games, posting season-high point totals: 13 against ULM on January 10, 14 against Coastal Carolina on January 17, and 15 against Georgia State on January 22.
A win for South Alabama would mark its third conference victory this season and its first win over Georgia State since January 29, 2021.
Georgia Southern arrives after an historic road win over Troy (80-69) on January 22—the program’s first such victory. The Eagles rank third in the Sun Belt standings and lead the league in several statistical categories: field-goal percentage (44.9%), fewest fouls per game (15.1), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.04), and turnovers per game (13.2).
