South Alabama’s baseball team will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, for a three-game series against the College of Charleston Cougars. The series begins Friday at 3:00 p.m. (CT), with games also scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (CT).
The two teams have met only six times before, with their last matchup occurring in March 2013. The Cougars currently lead the all-time series five games to one.
Charleston began its 2026 season by losing three out of four games to Rutgers but recently defeated No. 6 Coastal Carolina by a score of 4-3. Last season, Charleston finished third in the Coastal Athletic Association with a record of 37-22 overall and 15-12 in conference play.
Pitching matchups for the weekend include Mitchell Heer starting for South Alabama on Friday against Hayden Thomas for Charleston. On Saturday, Max Miller will pitch for South Alabama and Carson Bryant will start for Charleston. Sunday’s game will feature Daniel Gonzalez on the mound for South Alabama and Jace Stancil pitching for Charleston.
South Alabama comes into the series after winning their opening weekend rubber match against USC Upstate and securing a midweek victory over Nicholls State. The Jaguars’ offense has relied heavily on home runs early this season, ranking first in the Sun Belt Conference and eleventh nationally with nine home runs as of February 17. Mike Young and Duncan Mathews have each hit three home runs in four games, while Paxton Bigby has two and Blake Guerin has one.
