South Alabama’s men’s basketball team will host Troy on Saturday, February 21, at the Mitchell Center in Mobile. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT and will be available for viewing on ESPN+ and listening on the Jags Radio Network.
The Jaguars come into the matchup with a 19–9 overall record and a 9–6 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. Troy stands at 18-10 overall and 10-5 in conference games. In their previous meeting this season, Troy defeated South Alabama 59–49 at Trojan Arena, holding the Jaguars to their lowest point total of the year.
South Alabama is looking to rebound after a recent overtime loss to Texas State. In that game, “South Alabama erased a second-half deficit and forced overtime with a clutch three-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation, but Texas State pulled away late to hand the Jaguars a 90–82 setback Thursday night at the Mitchell Center.” Despite strong performances from Chaze Harris, who scored 28 points with eight assists, and Adam Olsen, who added 22 points including five three-pointers, South Alabama was outscored by Texas State’s bench and failed to secure any second-chance points.
In series history between these teams, South Alabama leads with a record of 31–16 over Troy across all meetings. The Jaguars have been especially successful when playing at home in Mobile, posting a 16–5 record against Troy there. Over each of the last four seasons, both teams have split their season series.
Troy has had mixed results recently but managed to edge out ULM in its latest contest. Thomas Dowd is among national leaders with his rebounding numbers and double-doubles this season for Troy. Victor Valdes also ranks high nationally in free-throw attempts.
Chaze Harris remains one of South Alabama’s key contributors as he leads the Sun Belt Conference in scoring and has recently surpassed 2,000 career points spanning his time with multiple programs. Harris has scored at least 25 points in each of his last four games.
South Alabama is recognized for its defensive efforts this season. The team currently allows only 12.5 fouls per game—lowest nationally—and holds opponents to just under 39 percent shooting from the field while ranking within the top third nationwide for scoring defense.
Looking ahead, South Alabama will finish its regular season schedule with three consecutive home games: against Troy on Saturday, followed by ULM on February 25 and Southern Miss on February 27 when five seniors will be honored.
