South Alabama’s baseball team achieved a decisive 21-6 victory over West Georgia on Saturday at Stanky Field, marking their third straight series win to start the 2026 season. The Jaguars improved their record to 8-3, while West Georgia fell to 1-10.

West Georgia took an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs off South Alabama starter Max Miller. In response, the Jaguars quickly narrowed the gap in the bottom half of the inning. Brennon Wright scored on a Duncan Mathews double, followed by a Paxton Bigby RBI single and consecutive RBI doubles from Mike Young and Blake Guerin, bringing the score to 4-3.

The momentum shifted further in South Alabama’s favor during the third inning when they added four runs. Puckett scored on a throwing error before Guerin hit a three-run home run—his fourth of the season—to left field. In the fourth inning, West Georgia managed two more runs on one hit, but those would be their last for the game as Bryant Quimby settled in on the mound and earned his second win of the year.

South Alabama’s offense surged with seven runs in the fourth frame, five of which came with two outs. Rett Johnson, Brennon Wright, and Duncan Mathews all contributed RBI hits during that stretch. A defensive miscue by West Georgia allowed Wright to score again in the sixth inning before Ethan Melton drove in two more runs with a single.

Brennon Wright had a standout performance, going 4-for-5 at bat and raising his average to .475 with 19 hits this season. Blake Guerin led with four RBIs and three hits in four at-bats, including his home run. The Jaguars have now recorded a .341 batting average with 46 RBIs in two-out situations across games this season. The 21-run tally was their highest offensive output so far this year and marked their third double-digit scoring game.

Bryant Quimby (2-0) secured his second win for South Alabama, while Wilson Donnelly (0-2) took the loss for West Georgia.

Head coach Mark Calvi commented after the game: “It was a good offensive response after last night. We took our walks and they hit some guys, but we got some hits and did our damage. We did a good job of playing team offense today and I thought Quimby did a great job of settling down the game after a shaky start. These guys really like each other and pull for each other and that’s a big deal.”

The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 p.m., with junior right-hander Daniel Gonzalez set to start for South Alabama against Lex Kenny for West Georgia.
