South Alabama is set to host Louisiana Tech this weekend at Stanky Field for its final non-conference baseball series before entering Sun Belt Conference play. The Jaguars, with a 10-3 record, will face the Bulldogs, who are currently 8-6. The teams will play Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The history between South Alabama and Louisiana Tech dates back to 1979. Out of their 36 meetings, South Alabama leads the series with 26 wins to Louisiana Tech’s 10. Their most recent matchup was in March 2025 in Ruston, where South Alabama took two out of three games. This was their first meeting since 2001, after which Louisiana Tech spent over a decade in other conferences but is scheduled to rejoin the Sun Belt Conference in 2027.
Louisiana Tech comes into the series on a five-game losing streak. The Bulldogs started strong with a sweep over Houston Christian and two wins against Ohio State but have struggled recently, including losses to Southern Miss and Arkansas State. Defensively, Louisiana Tech leads Conference USA in double plays and ranks fourth nationally in that category. They are also second in their conference for fielding percentage at .980.
For the upcoming games, pitching matchups include Mitchell Heer (South Alabama) versus Declan Dahl (Louisiana Tech) on Friday; Ryland Bozenhard (South Alabama) against Hudson Rowan (Louisiana Tech) on Saturday; and Daniel Gonzalez (South Alabama) facing Brooks Roberson (Louisiana Tech) on Sunday. All games will be available on ESPN+.
South Alabama enters the weekend after securing its tenth win of the season with a run-rule victory over UAB earlier this week. The team is currently on a four-game winning streak and has been productive offensively, especially with two outs—accounting for more than half of their runs batted in this season.
Brennon Wright has been among the top Division I players nationally as of March 5, leading the Sun Belt Conference in hits and batting average while ranking second in on-base percentage. He is currently on a four-game hitting streak.
Blake Guerin leads South Alabama in home runs and RBIs this season and has had notable performances against Charleston and West Georgia. He also enters the series with a four-game hitting streak.
Ryland Bozenhard, a transfer from FGCU, is expected to make his first start for South Alabama during this series after making two relief appearances so far this season.
Reliever Jaxon Shineflew has delivered dominant outings recently, not allowing any hits or earned runs over his last two appearances totaling eight innings pitched.
