South Alabama Men’s Tennis lost 5-2 to Tulane in a match held Saturday in New Orleans. The team’s overall record now stands at 4-6 for the season.
In doubles play, Tulane secured victories on courts one and three. The match between Gaudin/ElKordy (Tulane) and Accossatto/Yigin (South Alabama) was left unfinished with Tulane leading 6-5.
For singles, South Alabama’s Braden Hannig continued his strong performance by defeating Phillips of Tulane 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Adam Bouyacoub also won his singles match against Nisbet in three sets: 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. However, Tulane won the remaining four singles matches. ElKordy beat Accossatto in a close contest that ended 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 10-8; Friedler defeated Raemdonck 7-6 (7-1), 6-2; Gaudin overcame Frumholz 6-3, 6-1; and Andrzejewski won against Yigin with scores of 6-3, 6-0.
Braden Hannig has now extended his singles winning streak to three matches this season and remains undefeated when playing at the No.1 position. Adam Bouyacoub has achieved back-to-back singles wins.
Head coach Nick Brochu commented after the match: “Today is a little disappointing, especially after winning the last two matches. We thought we had some good momentum going. We got off to a really good start in doubles, but all of a sudden momentum shifted. We got conservative and played too safe. It looked like we were cruising again in singles, but momentum shifted again. Our guys got tight and everything shifted. Give Tulane credit, they were very aggressive. That doubles point really hurt us. We were in full control and we gave it away. I’m disappointed about today, but we’ve got to get some time off and get back at it on our spring break trip in Florida.”
